Love the coach's interpretation of the 15 run mercy rule. Re: foul tips. Doesn't have to be a JV coach. Years ago back in CNY had an experienced varsity coach ask me why R1 on first could run to 2nd on a foul tip if it was a foul ball.
Think it is inexcusable for an umpire not to know it. |
Had this one once - Home team had a fairly wild pitcher (surprise) - she would hit like one batter an inning - nothing serious, just a bouncer here, a little nick there SO...in like the 5th, guess what - another HBP. Visiting coach comes out and goes like this:
COACH: Hey blue, that's five ME: Huh? COACH: That's five...thats the fifth batter she's hit ME: And? COACH: She has to leave the game ME: Why? COACH: That's the rule! ME: Not here.... I found out later that was, of course a LL rule... Oh - after the NEXT one, I slowly took off my mask, took two steps towards the H dugout, and just LOOKED at the coaches, with my hands kind of out, as if to say, 'Well?" They took her out of the game - finally... |

It's been a while since I've done LL, but I'd be surprised if Little League actually made that a rule. Perhaps you are talking about an unauthorized "local" rule, or possibly a rec. league that isn't officially Little League. |

Had a coach one time argue that I should eject a catcher for obstruction when his runner was obstructed at the plate.
Okay coach. "she can't be there" (I know, that's why I called obstruction) "You've gotta eject her!" (You must be joking) |

no touching!
Heard the old "She's gotta slide at home or you have to eject her" the other night.
|
was asked today if the 1st baseman could roll the ball to the pitcher. Huh?
|
"That's gotta be something!!" is always one of my favorites.

I had to say something and there was nothing needed, so just in case it is not obvious to all:
