Thumbs up

If any of you on this board were part of the officiating at the Summer Showcase Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery this weekend, please accept my congratulations for a job well done. I thought overall, all the umpires did a great job. Great facility also.

Have played Lagoon as a coach, yep, its a nice place, and usually well run tourney. They also use a second park a little east of Lagoon when size dictates, (I can't remember name) it is also very nice facility. Wish more cities would develop, and use them, I see many benefits to the communities.

Other one you referred to is probably Dean Fain Park. I believe they used that for the younger groups this weekend. Only problem with the Lagoon fields this weekend was that the infield dirt was like concrete, even after a week of rain. They need to turn and drag them. Lots of scraped legs.

As a citizen of Montgomery, I thank you for the kind words about our two wonderful softball complexes - Lagoon and Fain Park. Montgomery is the host city for the Blue Gray Men's fastpitch tournament, AHSAA softball championships, and a few ASA fastpitch tournaments each year. The majority of play at these fields consists of boundless levels of slow pitch softball. I have never witness an actual fastpitch game at Fain or Lagoon. Do they put up temporary fencing in the outfield for the younger age groups?

There were break away fences on each field at Lagoon. I assume them to be about 220'. Unfortunately, they weren't long enough for one of our opponents who put us out of the tourney with a monster shot.
I did hear one crew mention that they hadn't done fast pitch since 1987 and I was pleased that they called a good game, regardless.
Ya Gotta get more fast pitch in there.

Yep, Fain park. I should remember that, though it wasn't a ball park when I lived there in the 70's. emaxos, I also had a girl hurt us by going deep, not once, but twice at Lagoon! It was still a fun tourney. As an aside, I hopefully will have a daughter playing in Montgomery for Faulkner next year! Huntington also has fast pitch team, so there is fast pitch in town, but more needed at Lagoon,(and everywhere else for that matter!)
