Aging sucks!

I have been officiating different sports off and on for the last 34 years (mainly FP softball, but also SP Softall, Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball and even some Swimming and Track and Field)....

I had some hip issues and had to lay off for a couple of years......but about three years ago, I started swimming again and riding a bike to get back at it.....I had a good year and then had a bad bike wreck January 2011......that screwed up last year pretty good.

This year.......back at it.....working out.....feeling well.....association meetings.....both NFHS and local ASA. Dues paid and ready to get back in the mix......I had called a number of fall ball games and was feeling really good.

Well......a couple of weeks ago, I was working in the yard rearranging some concrete blocks around the pool.......and hyperextended my right knee. It swelled up like a grapefruit.....I broke that patella when I was 13 and it has given me some minor problems over the years.....but nothing like this...

Another year on the bench..........

Screw it.....I am ready to cut off my right leg.......

Sorry for the rant......but I am really furstrated......

Joel

Having lost a year already due to medical issues, I completely relate to all that you are saying.

Just don't say that you are ready for a mid-life crisis!

I turn 73 in May and can relate to anyone having age problems. I stopped officiating football after 40 seasons, 32 in CNY and 8 here, because I felt I was a drag on the crews. I could no longer sprint down to spot balls after long gainers and it just seemed that I could no longer keep up. I still umpire high school softball and had a short season last year due to an asthma problem. I know the end for that may come soon too, but I'll continue as long as I'm enjoying it.
