Doing 14U B ASA last night and witnessed one of the best catches
I have seen, especially at this age. Bases juiced, two outs, team in field is ahead by one. CF is playing in unusually short it seemed to me, but after this play I think the coaches knew her capabilities. A hard hit ball to CF, F8 turns around and heads for the fence 220 feet and glancing over her shoulder makes a "Say Hey Willie" catch with back to the plate, craches into fense [chain link] turns and presents the ball. Ball game. glen

That's what I love about youth softball. Every so often you see a kid make the most unbelievable play, the kind you see on Sportscenter.A couple of years ago I saw a left fielder make the same kind of catch to save the game for the home team. She was a very mediocre player (at best) but for that one moment she was the queen of the world. It was a moment she'll never forget even after her playing days are long over.
Softball is the greatest game ever. |
