Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum. I have a couple of questions for those of you who work Little League Softball games. Thanks in advance for any comment!
1) In Minor Division age group 9/10, can runners steal home? 2) In same division, can local league opt for 10 player roster (9 + 1 rover)? Any rule reference is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I tried the LL web site to see how to order rule books, but all I could find is http://www.littleleague.org/merchandise/books.htm
which does not seem to include a rule book. I guess you have to get them through your district organization. Also, try searching this forum for "Little League Softball" and maybe you will find someone who umpires it. |

Little League does allow stealing home, but you won't see it a lot at this level; remember, a runner can't leave until the ball reaches the batter or home plate. The runner would be trying to steal a base at which the defense already has the ball at. However, trying to advance on passed balls and wild pitches can happen a lot.
Little League doesn't provide for the 10th. defensive position. (Leagues can opt to bat the entire lineup, not just the defensive starters.) Regarding rule books, you get 1 of each if you register & pay their Little League Umpire Registry fee, but their web site lacks a good way for ordering books otherwise. Welcome to the wonderful world of LL umpiring!

sprivitor,
Panda Bear is quite correct. In many cases, Little League Minor divisions tweak their local rules in order to appease parents, to compensate for the talent levels, to increase playing time, and to decrease score differentials. It would be best to check with the Local League to verify any 'local customs'. mick |
