Fair or foul?

The ball is popped up and hits the ground past the circle but in front of the base line between 1st and 2nd. It then spins and crosses the foul line between home and 1st. Fair or foul?

Is this different for different codes?

Used to be different for NFHS, but I believe all codes now have this as a foul ball.

ASA says foul.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

Thanks Mark. I remember this interpretation for some code several years ago. This happened in my tournament this past weekend and we just called it foul but I went Humm......

How was that justified and how long ago do you mean?

NFHS used to (changed about 4 or 5 years ago, I think ) have the diagonal from 1B to 3B be the determining line for a fair ball instead of the base lines from 1B to 2B to 3B. If I remember correctly, the rule was similar to the NFHS rule in baseball.

So, in Rachel's OP, the old NFHS rule would have been fair ball. Now, it is a foul ball as it is in most if not all other codes.
