Infield Fly Rule - ASA vs. NFHS
Does ASA have any language anywhere that the force is removed on an infield fly?
ASA's definition of an infield fly in rule 1 is: Quote:

Yeah, the part where is states the batter-runner is out when an infield fly is declared. That is 8.2.I
Guess NFHS figures their folks aren't smart enough to figure that out.

Had the play happen tonight in our kickball game. Runners onf 1st & 2nd with nobody out.
Batter kicks an infield fly and umpire calls IF. Ball hits the ground and both runners advance and F4 throws to F6 who touches second and runner was rang up "on the force." Umpire was pretty sure that advancing at own risk meant the force was still on. Oh well. But now I know (and knowing is half the battle... GI Joe!)

Yes, the NFHS book is very overly-elaborate in certain places. I particularly love rule 8-8: "The runner is not out".

Truth spoken right here! Especially at the middle school level.

Kickball? Is that on ESPN 8 "The Ocho"? Under FED isn't an offensive player who intentionally kicks the ball out or guilty of interference? Do they have a cheat sheet for rules differences between FED, NCAA and OKBR ?
Just wondering, Paul

Not if A) the pitcher rolls the ball toward the plate and B) the ball is rubber and much larger than a softball...

I don't know...it seemed pretty serious at recess in sixth grade...I do remember getting into fights with some of the other kids over close calls and rule interpretations!
