the perfect plate conference...

at at least one of this years ASA state schools, I get to do a presentation on the the plate conference.

so, lets hear (read) your ideas of how the plate conference should go. I'm open to all ideas and opinions on this one. (I've got my own of course, I just want others).

1. Introductions
2. Lineups (Umpire checks for duplicate numbers, DP/Flex, EP used, names recorded correctly, all positions listed, returns to coach for one last look before accepting)
3. Ground Rules
4. Any questions? (no rules clinics)
5. Coin flip (if needed)

Shouldn't take more than 3-4 minutes.

Great. Sometimes I cover ground rules first in an ongoing tourney as they do not change, often do not need repeating, still have their attention and allow for last minute lineup prep. Usually repeat time limit if it has changed for a final round.

If you were coming to Manassas this week, you would see the one the National staff pirated for the last UIC clinic

I agree with this form. However, 3-4 minutes???????????

Whatever you do, tell people to stay away from those innane comments like "if you don't agree with the call, wait until all play has stopped and then request time. Once time is granted, approach the umpire who made that call and tell them what you saw.....blah blah blah." I have never understood why so many people like to include this in their plate conference. The purpose of the plate conference is for exactly the items that Andy has listed, and nothing more.

Hi coach, Hi coach. OK, balls, strikes, safes, outs are ours! You walk we talk, you run we gun! Any questions?

JK Have never said this in Fed or ASA ball.

I have used this in rec ball. I have really received some pretty odd looks after I finish. Then I go back with my normal plate conference.
