Can't Imagine anybody wanting to swim for 8 hours unless the boat sunk!

Swimmming just muddies up the creek, and then the fish won't bite. (Them cement ponds in town were too far to ride bicycles to anyway.)

(Never sunk a boat while in the Coast Guard. Did have one flood to the gunnels when an engineer popped the cap off a jet-drive we were testing one day!)

Masters' swimming - now that might be interesting. Just for laughs, I got timed in a 50 two years ago and was amazed to see a time just over 30 seconds - good thing I wasn't trying to do a 100, though. We used to swim about 6-8 hours a day, just about year-round. But, no such animal like masters swimming up here.

My last event as a Masters Swimmer was about 5 years ago in the 50 fly...........(I was 37)

I had swam a 100 free and a 50 free already that day (I think I had around a 1:10 and about a :30)........I would be lucky to break :40 in a 50 today..........lol

I gulped a huge amount of water about 15yds from the finish and got DQ'd for touching bottom.........Lauren did not swim the next year and neither did I.........I was a sprinter in my youth........and as I got older my endurance got better and when I had time.........I would swim miles..........(at a much slower pace........but it was good for me)..........I have not done that for about 5 years either..........although it would do me a lot of good these days..............

There was a regular in the Masters program here on the Gulf Coast that was part of the 1972 Olympic team that swam with Mark Spitz (he was on the Gold Winning 400 Medley Relay team)............he stayed in shape although he was in his late 40's he was a site to watch.........

I was a decent HS swimmer and swam in all the Summer programs............

When Lauren started, I thought it would be fun to participate also..........and it was.........maybe I would be in better shape if any of the kids would have shown an interest in it.............

Sorry to hijack the thread back ONTO topic, but . . .

Maybe fellow ex-Chicagoan Bluezebra remembers this also, but I used to umpire 16-inch under UPA (Umpires' Protective Association) rules. The only difference I really remember is that if the ball fell into the little "triangles" at the back of the plate, it could not be a strike (same as hitting the plate).

Yeah Glen, that rain has cost me two weekends worth of umpiring, including one big, major metroplex USSSA tourney last weekend. Before we know it, it will be winter and there won't be any more tournaments to work until '03. At this point, I am slated for three more. I hope that I can get these in.

I have lost two, have another this coming weekend which is
normally pretty large for this time of year. The Babe Z
tournament. This will be our seventh [7th] year. Have one
scheduled for Nov. 23rd & 24th also, then two in Dec. Hope
this mess stops soon. We have had 9 1/4" here so far and it
is raining now. Have the remains of that Mexician strom
coming in sometimes tonight or tomorrow morning. They are
calling for 3 to 4 more inches.

Since Glen called me by name, I'll have to reply. Our high school went down in the sectionals after winning 8 AAAAA. They won 1, lost 2. Bye, bye. Too bad, we were state runner up last year. Yes guys, we play fastpitch in the fall and we like it. It doesn't mess up travel ball season.
DD Renee has a call back tryout today for a 18U 'A' team--the coach played Div 1 ball (anybody know Jan Phillips, played somewhere, then coached a small college in La.?), her won loss record for JO ball past 6 years is 511-100. Keep your fingers crossed!!!
