Sitting here wondering just how many different softball associations
there are. I came up with this list and out of this list I have called
in 8 different ones. {No ISF, ISA, or NCAA. Called tournaments
that colleges were in but strictly showcase type.)

1. AFA, 2. ASA, 3. Dixie, 4. ISF, 5. ISA, 6. Little league 7. NCAA,
8. NFHS, 9. NSA, 10. Pony, 11. USSSA.

Let me know which I missed...

Thanks,

I know that there is also a SSAA(Southern Softball Association of America)and a ISSA(International Senior Softball Association). I am sure that there are still a dozen or so more.

There is also a new assn. known as the World Softball League (WSL).

And let's not forget ISF.

Let's add ISC to the list.

Mike,

ISF was number 4 on originial list. :D

BTW I am sure that most of you know and probably already
have your copies, but NFHS rule/case books are available
for the 2003 season. Some of you are in the NFHS season
already and some have finished, right Elaine?

Good catch! Must be time for new glasses that I don't wear.

After I posted yesterday, I started thinking about it, and ISF really isn't an association, but more of a keeper of the gate for international play. A team does not have to be of a certain sanctioning body to play ISF.

I believe in Southern California they play some leagues/tournaments under SCMAF rules. SCMAF stands for Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation.

Here's one

SPA which is Softball Players Association which is a Senior SP league. I understand it is the 2nd largest of its kind. Which I have had the pleasure of calling its Nationals the last 2 years. White cotton golf shirts with Blue shorts(My kinda league) is the uniform

I'd rather have maybe one or two---

strong associations in any given area-----
back north where I lived and officiated for many years
we only has ASA for recreation softball and NYS Assn. for
high school- it worked out well as most were members of both and we held joint meetings and clinics----
I moved here and was faced with a mess of rag tag associations--
I ended up only working high school ball here in FL with an association affiliated with the FHSAA. I see the multi- organization situation as just a bunch of folks squabbling over control of the flow of money
in local softball-- I want no part of all this back stabbing !!!

glen............

You forgot TAAF (Texas Amateur Athletic Federation)...........of course they are a Texas Thang............they replaced much of the old AAU...........

I know some girls that I have coached from the past that have played at the TAAF State Championships.............

TAAF is really a pretty good set of Athletic Competitions...........Lauren played on a State Runner up Basketball team a couple of years ago...........and if you are an old fart.........they even have Masters Categories (all ages male/female for just about every sport)...........(I swam in the 35-40 Masters for a year.......it was a lot of fun).........

I've been seeing Steve up awfully early............from 3-5 a.m., if he is not careful...........I will start thinking he is a super early riser like I am............or has been having to take care of many crisis' at his work....................grin

Our Corporate Office put out the word awhile back that non-work related internet trips are mucho frowned upon.............Mama Smith didn't raise no fool................sooooooooo

No boards during the day..............I do miss peeking.............but understand the reasoning behind it.................

Yup,
Joel is seeing me up early. Work is keeping me pretty busy these days and I've got some other stuff going on that's taking a lot of time - so I'm not on the boards anywhere near as often as I'd like to be. The ball season is over here until March - usually when I get into the rule books & all. I've got a couple of college clinics coming up but then nothing until Feb.

Joel,
Masters' swimming - now that might be interesting. Just for laughs, I got timed in a 50 two years ago and was amazed to see a time just over 30 seconds - good thing I wasn't trying to do a 100, though. We used to swim about 6-8 hours a day, just about year-round. But, no such animal like masters swimming up here.
