Interference during an infield fly
Jr Babe Ruth rules. Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. B3 hits a high fly ball toward F6. The umpire calls "Infield Fly, batter is out". R1 (started on 2nd base) runs past F6 on the way to 3rd and realizes it is an infield fly, so he starts to run back toward 2nd base. R1 runs into F6 who is trying to catch the fly ball and knocks him over. The ball falls to the ground. R1 gets back to 2nd base. What is the call?
I called B3 out on the infield fly, but I did not call R1 out for interference. I think I made a mistake. I believe B3 is out is out on the infield fly, and R1 is out on interfernece. My theory is R1 must be called for interference. If you do not call R1 out on interference, then that would allow R1 to knock over the infielder attempting to make the play and then R1 could advance to 3rd with out tagging up since F6 did not catch the ball. |

Your second thoughts were correct. Batter out on the infield fly, runner from 2B out on interference.
