On Infield fly, PU declares Infield Fly, Runners at 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 3rd base runner takes off before fly ball is caught and scores. PU doesn't recognize that runner left before ball was caught. However, it "seemed" as though the field ump (newbie) saw the early departure. Should the FU have made a call or could the defense have made a throw to 3rd for an appeal?

Leaving early must be an appeal, so no call by either ump unless appealed. If appealed, whoever gets the appeal makes the call, but can ask for help. An infield(er) fly is the same as any other fly ball except for the batter being automatically out.

Please use BU as an abbreviation even though the correct term is field umpire.
