ran into this topic on the "other" board. Peaked my curiosity...how many people have you guys sent packing so far this season?? and why??

So far..i'm over 85 games this year..i think..i lost count and i'm at 5

first one(bantam boys) the pitcher called me a retard

mens fast pitch- 2,3 and 4th.....bench clearing brawl..there three were the three protagonists.

and the last one was in an orthodox game./.first basemen comes running, screaming across the diamond at me..tells me to take off my shades because i could ..(well he used that F word)...see better that way...

nothing to serious....

what about you guys?

I've read in your ntxblue, and on the other board that you guys have done a lot of ball games, and had very few ejections. The sad thing is....I've got thick skin...

maybe it's something in the water up here in the Great White North??

Closing in on 200 games. In only two games did anyone even get close, and it was the same guy in both instances.

I've got a little over 210 games this year and didn't toss anyone. Made good use of a FYC & kept the player in the game. I had a college coach that that got very close to going, too. Our association handled him, though and he is now no longer at the school.

153 this year............and again............"0" tosses..............(and Fall-ball is soooooo layed back.......I can't imagine any REAL controversies coming in that)......

Last year I had a little over 220 (counting Fall-ball)........and again "0" tosses..........

Last year, I got really nervous because I had almost "zero" controversies..........and ended the season without many ripples..............but it still had me looking over my shoulder after about 50 games (at that time, I had EXACTLY ZERO questioned calls)...........but was glad to make the season almost intact........

I booted a few and still made it out OK............grin

This year was even smoother............I booted a pitcher illegally pitching.............along with the normal strikes/balls missed............I am sure I probably booted a few others.........but those are the only ones I recall off the top of my head.......

I am sure the SB Gods are saving something special for me in the future..............grin

I just hope I am ready for it when it happens...........

It may be this coming year..........I will be calling mulitple districts this next year because my office has moved.........and it will be easier for me to umpire outside of my regular association........

So I will be seeing a lot of new coaches and parents in an area where I am NOT a fixture............

We will see where that goes............

Joel

Steve.........were these Men's or Women's games............???

I would think that that in the Men's (and probably college Women's that the FYC would be properly interpreted)........

Anything below that?

Joel,
My single FYC this year was in a men's major game, sometime in June.

Don't know how many games I've worked this year, but I've only asked for a substitute for one player from England. He popped up and, after me telling him not to do it, he whipped the bat hard enough it made it to the backstop in the air. The backstop was about 35 feet away.

No argument from anyone, including the player. The coach just gave me a substitute and thanked me. Gotta love the Brits!

194 games, 3 ejections, all in baseball games, all 14 & under games.

2 players. Both threw elbows at player (one F1, One F2) that picked them off base during an ensuing rundown.

1 assistant coach for turning around to his fans and yelling and waiving his arms toward his fans attempting to incite them after being sent back to his coaching box following a squeez play. (The defense must have caught the sign, or made a good guess. They put on a pitch out and the batter lept out of the box and had his foot on the ground almost in the opposite batter's box when he made contact. Assistant coach seemed to think that was ok)

All 3 ejections were in the same tournament.

Red face

Not sure how many games, probably around 80-100. One coach during High School because I backed up my partner, and the coach had a few words about our judgment.

One second baseman after an earlier argument with a player on the other team. during a double play attempt he threw the ball at and hit the runner coming from first.

One last Monday A@@ H@@e pitcher complained about my strike zone for three innings. A new pitcher came in, and he keep complaining from the dugout. While his team was on defense he would wander around the first baseline, so I told him to stay in the dugout. He still kept coming out, so I treated him like a little kid and restricted him to the dugout. The next inning, he wanted to coach 3rd. I told him he couldn't because he was restricted to the dugout. After he told me how good my umpireing abillities were he left.

Cool

200+ games of SP, around 40 FP and about 50 basketball games and no formal ejection or even a T. Guess I am getting to soft in my OLD days

Working a game at this year's 18&U A states, my partner got 2 on the same play. B-R through an elbow at F4 on a tag attempt & got an immediate toss, when the coach used a magic word while disagreeing, she disappeared too. So far as I know, those were his only ones this year.
