pffft... as long as the out of state plate has not itself expired, they won't stop you for that; just be careful what you say if they stop you for anything else; and my experience is (I moved to TX from IA) they even ignore expired out of state plates. Just don't get a TX driver's license and try to keep your out of state plates; it'll be hard to explain that if you get stopped for speeding, etc. Otherwise, you "just moved".
But, I even got away with having a TX DL and IA plates... told 'em it was my wife's car and SHE just joined me in TX! But, I wouldn't recommend that...
And, my daughter lives in the DFW metroplex and has been driving a car with MN plates for 6 years. My SIL just sold a car that had MN plates that he had been driving in TX for 3 years.
