play at the plate
how would you rule this play
play at the plate, ball beats the runner by a descent amount, the catcher was straddling home plate, the runner tried to slide under the tag but the tag was applied properly. the force of the slide causes the catcher to fall to a knee/sorta laying on top of the runner. the catcher is clearly in possession of the ball at this point in time, and is on a knee/laying on top of the runner for about 1s. In the catchers attempt to get up they "trip" over the runner, stumble a little bit (for about another second), fall to the ground, and the ball pops out of the glove upon impact with the ground. |

If the player has control of the ball when the tag is applied, I have an out.

Dave I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views! Screw green, it ain't easy being blue! I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again. |

thanks, thats what i ruled, the runner and on deck batter were pissed bc the catcher did drop the ball, but not when applying the tag.

She probably dropped it again the next inning.
