3 Distinct Actions

We were given a new strike mechanic at the clinic this year and I was wondering if this is how it is being done all over.

NFHS
1. Vocalize call "Haaahggh!!"
2. Stand up
3. The High Hammer

This replaces Vocalizing and hammering simultaneously then standing

Sounds like ASA's mechanic. How high's the hammer? 90 degrees, or raising up a fist high into the air?

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

It's higher than 90* and a little more to the front

D.G. in Region 4 has his own interpretation of what that "mechanic" means.

This is the only mechanic I have been taught, have taught and used since starting to umpire, both for high school and ASA.

Only way Ive ever been taught/taught, fast or slow. I think it helps with slowing down your timing a little.

Not new.
Hammering while squatting seems very awkward.
Some umps stand before the vocal, however, also wrong,
