I think Arbiter sold my e-mail address

I have started to get a lot of advertizing (spam) e-mails from various collage softball programs, some I had umpired for, some I had not. I got to thinking why would a collage softball program send me an e-mail, they never did before. I think the ansewer may be because the Arbiter knows my e-mail address and is owned by NCAA. Have any of you guys gotten unsolicited e-mails advertizing a college's softball team's up coming games?

I would think it is more likely your local association sold the info or a member gathered and passed on the information provided.

I have farmed our local site for data, but only for distribution of association business, nothing personal or pertaining to a third party.

I wouldn't dream of giving someone outside the association this information.

I wonder if Arbiter does sell to a third-party. I'm on there for softball and basketball, and I started getting these 60-second things for basketball, and several guys I work with have said the same thing. Haven't gotten anything for softball yet.

Terrible. Just terrible.

But hey, at least they're honest about screwing you.

There is no way for me to know who sold my email address.. Probably arbiter and everyone else... but I can say for 3 years I used my @us.army.mil email on arbiter and I've never gotten spam to that address. I've signed up for so many different things with other emails and also its posted on websites so could get spidered, that it is hard to tell. Yes I get a lot of junk mail, but most just gets spam foldered away.

The only thing that surprises me is how honest they are about selling your information.

A paraphrase: "Yeah, we do it. You can ask us nicely to stop, and we'll probably listen. If we've already sold it to other entities, that's your problem now, not ours. Tough luck."

e-mail lists are the lifeblood of any company doing business on the internet, just as regular mail lists were before the electronic age. Businesses regularly trade or sell these lists to improve sales potential. There is absolutely nothing illegal or immoral about this, except if a company says it will not trade e-mails and then does so.

It is easy to avoid the inundation of unwanted e-mails by simply creating another e-mail account and using that one for all potential e-mail you wish to avoid.

Unlike snail mail, though, the consumer can easily avoid
