Uniform Question (shoes) for softball?

This may be for more the FHSAA (florida), I just want to know if having black base/field/plate shoes with the NEW BALANCE 'N' in white is considered 'legal' acc. to the NFHS? Fhsaa book says 'go by nfhs' . Anyone get 'marked down' on their eval for this? Shoot, I even bought these at Honigs and what they sell is compliant!!

Can't speak for NFHS, but I've got a $2 solution for you.

Sharpie.

ASA does say, "your shoes may be any color, as long as that color is black." I bought a pair of New Balance 350s, which are wonderful, but come with some silver trim on the bottom. I blackened it out just fine with a Sharpie.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

Sharpie

meh on the sharpie. I think a sharpie looks 'worse' than leaving it alone! Oh well, next year its definitely lacrosse for me. They need officials so badly down here in FL.

The "N" still bleeds through if you wear them on a lit field at night.

From the NFHS Umpire's Manual:

Quote:
Shoes should be solid black with no white or colored markings.
For those of you scoring at home, this can be found on page 19.

Shoe polish? More Sharpie?

Wasn't there a guy on here who said you could take off the "N" very carefully with some rubbing alcohol?

If you're scoring at home, what are you doing online?

Agreed. You may have to go over it more than once, but a marker will be just fine.

After a few polishings (you DO polish your shoes, right?), the black will stay and become almost unnoticeable when calling night games with overhead lighting.
