Strike Zone

Interesting article from The Hardball Times. Look for: That was a strike?

Would you welcome this technology at the college and high school level?

Very interesting

I dont know if my link will work any better.

Let be said that I have often backed up Angel Hernandez to the BB guys who hate him, and not just cuz he has great softball mechanics either.

I would love to have my strike zone checked in that manner. I believe, as with MLB umpires, any computerized tracking of our calls would show that umpires with pride and training are mostly correct. Those that dont care would be exposed.

But that's not good enough. You need to be better than perfect. Ever notice in any sport broadcast and subsequent talking head shows that they find one out of hundreds of plays that may or may not have been accurate, and they hang there hat on that play. Some of these morons are showing a replay of a pitch an inning later. Where are the replays of all the good calls.

Actually, I think if they applied a computer-generated analyzation of umpire's strike zone, they may discover that, by the book, the umpire is not calling enough strikes.

As Jim Evans says:

"Even when umpiring your first game, you are expected to be perfect and get better every game you umpire."

I'd love to see them try and analyze the SP strike zone...

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.
