Sliding head first faster than feet first

Must be true for softball for those organizations that allow head first slides. Article.

Wouldn't put too much into this article since the author doesn't know the proper method of sliding.

An elementary law of physics would say that sliding on the ground is slower than running. On ice is probably the opposite. Gravity? Bah! Sliding on the ground creates FRICTION, which slows the body. The only time to slide into 1B is to avoid a tag on a wide throw.

Peters mentions 'diving'. If the body is going through the air, without contacting the ground, diving probably is faster. But not sliding along the ground.

I once was at a JV FP game where after we retired the BR for the third out of the game, the PU approaches our coach and tells her "she would have been out anyways for sliding into first base."

[voice style="Spock"] Fascinating. [/voice]

You sure it wasn't the umpire who was JV instead of the teams?
