Are you sure? The information I read indicates that Easton did not abstain, but reclused himself prior to the vote because his company sells equipment used by olympic sports. The I.O.C. did not release the name of the individual that abstained.

Abstained, recused; tomato, tomahto. He didn't vote. His reason was either bogus or he should have never accepted the position to begin with. IF he had voted and voted FOR softball, it would be played in the London Olympics. Maybe a big contract with European interests was on the line. Maybe he was sucking up to the Frog. Whatever, he betrayed the USA and the sport of international softball in my view.

I wonder how big an effect the number of Olympic teams has on Easton Sports. Minuscule, I am guessing.

I agree. Regardless of why he did not vote, he should have. Apparently, the customary method of avoiding an ethical or any other possibility of conflict in a vote is for the chair to inform the member of the conflict. It was reported that no such notice was provided by the chair to Mr. Easton.
