Just did my last HS game last night - state semi-final in 5A division 2.

State tourney wraps up this weekend, but I am done.
I have some various weddings and graduations the next few weekends so my next action will be a 14u qualifier on Memorial Day weekend. After that, a few weekend tourneys when I'm available.

Counting FR, JV, and tournaments, I worked 40 HS games this season starting in the last week of February. How does that compare to the rest of you HS umps?

I had 44 high school games scheduled at the beginning of the year, but picked up a few more along the way, lost count....always say I will keep track but never seem to get to, too busy! That is from 3/17 to 5/17 so there are some still left....Sectionals start 5/19 here. Not sure if I got an assignment yet, those are suppose to come out in the next few days.

Our HS season began in early February. I had 27 regular season, 2 district, 2 regionals, 1 finals. That's plenty for me, since I also had 35 JUCO and college games.

Now just a few rec games (filling in when the parks are short-handed) and a summer tournament or two. Then hip-replacement surgery in August and rehab for the 2009 season.

I missed half the season and still managed to get in 31 games for HS and college. I guess I could double that if I had made the whole season. And I have yet to work a tournament in 2008.

Gee, I only called 18 games and 4 scrimmages (still not paid from those). You guys are beasts!!!!

We had lay offs at work and I took the duties of two jobs, plus my old job, so I had to limit myself to 1 game during the week and a doubleheader on Saturday.

Damn, I haven't called a game yet this season. Season just started 4 days ago though.

So far, it's about 70 games - but today was certainly washed out.

I have just finished my first month of the season, and have done 8 high school games, 1 rec league game, and 2 travel team games. I have had 5 games cancelled (probably won't be made up since playoffs start soon). I have a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday which will round out my high school season. I'm pretty happy with the amount of games I've done this year since I have seen all of DD's games and managed to start my spring chores while still spending some quality time with the family.

I probably won't be umpiring much in the next couple of weeks since my son is graduating high school and we're having an open house so I have to find time to put up a new fence before the end of the month. If anyone wants to come by for a hog roast (my wife's influence since that's what they do over here) or some brisket (my influence since I love real BBQ) feel free to stop on by. Probably have some cold Beck's, Heineken, and Hoegaarden also!

Sure. I'll come. But it looks like I will have to bring the beer!

That is neat they are doing that for those women and acknowledging their sportsmanship. Its a shame we don't see that more in other sports, and it is also a shame a blown rule interpretation led to that incident.

But if the call had been correct, we'd never have had the great human interest story and our sport wouldn't have received the "good sports" publicity. Every once in awhile the wrong answer turns out right.
