You guys are making WAAAAAY too much of this. No self-respecting kid over 10 would use one of these things.

It comes in blue and pink. The lighting effect is only in the pocket and only when hit by the ball. You know... AFTER the batter has swung! And, it can be turned off.

It is marketed for T-ball players. So some 10 year old thinks it is cute. Big deal.
I was thinking much the same thing when I read that!

Yes, it is inaccurate. That is the exact model my 6 yr old wanted. Outside of the web lights up. She thinks it's the greatest glove ever - Lights up; favorite color; left handed.
So what I cited IS accurate as compared to what Tom posted, that the "pocket" lights up.

If you see it on a ball field (I highly doubt it), and if it bothers you, just have the player push the on/off button.
Oh, it wouldn't bother me, but didn't we just have a conversation involving gloves and to what extent some coaches will go to find an excuse or advantage?

And, yes, this is a glove for children. I guess it is just the old man in me that holds onto the thought of someone getting a glove, taking care of it and using it for years. Hell, I'm still on my 3rd glove and I got my first around 1958.

No, its not just you.

Its an ejectable offense. Rule 14.1

Anyone who makes a complete travesty of the sport shall be ejected and their parents shall also be ejected.

EXCEPTION: If the mother of the ejected player is hot and sitting on the bench in such a way as to make between innings more enjoyable; only the father shall be ejected.

I suppose if you REALLY care about what EXACTLY lights up you could go to a store and look at one, or look at the pic I posted and notice the inserts into the pocket that look like this:

) (

Either way, we are NOT going to see one of these gloves in any competitive softball game. Sheesh.

>>>URBAN LEGEND ALERT!!!!<<<

I seem to remember that when the "athletic" shoes with the lights built into the heel first came out, there was concern because one of the chemicals that made the lights work was Mercury. There were terrible visions of one of those light pockets breaking open and Mercury being spilled everywhere.....

Of course, there was never any documented proof...just the "my brother's best friend's cousin that is married to the guy who delivers boxes that the shoe company uses to put the shoes in" told me so.

Ok, so I went home on my lunch hour to check out the black and blue light-up glove. It has lights on the inside and the outside of the webbing that light up when pressure is applied to the pocket. Also, the little red 'R' logo on the outside lights up as well.

In this world, and especially involving youth softball, I wouldn't be so quick to be so sure about anything. Never say never.

Do we really have nothing better to do than this and spit-shining patent leather belts?

The glove doesn't have Mercury, but it does have Venus, Saturn and, you guessed it, Uranus. Be ESPECIALLY careful around Uranus. It could cause you a whole !$#@load of problems.
