Toe plates

Our association has not received our rule books yet, so I am hoping someone can answer this question. With pitchers allowed to have metal toe plates this year, if they are removed from the pitching position, and moved to another position in the field, do they have to remove the toe plate or change shoes?

Who said the pitcher may wear metal toe plates? IOW, to what set of rules are you referring?

According to the clinician at the NFHS clinic just attended last week, the new rule allowing metal cleats in 2008 is interpreted as also allowing any player to wear the metal toe plate.

I believe that is already what CajunNewBlue said.

??? ???
Um, actually, at the High School clinic (with rule books in hand), the new rule was reviewed with the umpires and coaches present. After the review, a specific question was asked in reference to whether or not this applied to pitchers only, or all players (re: steel toe plate).
So after CajunNewBlue so aptly quoted the new rule, I just thought I would add the verbal interpretation of our recent High School clinician. It seemed to help some with their understanding.

In my rule book 3-3-11 does not say that at all. The only thing it says about toe plates is :
NOTE : Metal toe plates and metal cleats are permitted.

Also, on page 83 under: METAL CLEATS AND METAL TOE PLATES PERMITTED
(3-2-11): This rule change permits players to wear metal cleats and pitchers to wear metal toe plates.

You are taking a single sentence out of context. 3-3.11 is about shoes. It starts with "Shoes are required equipment" and goes on to define shoes. The note under 3-3.11 is a further definition of shoes.

Again - what are you reading on page 83? That is not a rule, it is comentary by the NFHS committee on their intent of rule change. If all players can have metal on their soles, than pitchers can now have metal on their toes to reduce shoe wear. If you are not a pitcher, does that mean you are prohibited from wearing toe plates? Of course not - it is just that pitchers are more likely to want them.
