My only response to RischMSN is that the "bad baseball strike" is already a redundant phrase. This guy is already qualified for Little League World Series.

Mick,
Baseball & softball are identical in "timing", but not much else. So a baseball ump's thoughts about softball are as irrelevant as a softball ump's thoughts on baseball. That he's got enough arrogance to throw a cheap shot - that's like a flea bite in that it's annoying but not really worth a response.

I merely wanted to share the video umpire's retort about *forfeit*.

The only comment made about the mechanic was by MichaelVA2000, a BB/SB umpire, about a BB strike mechanic in a softball game.

I assumed RichMSN's comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, since he as generally shown that he appreciates any official that brings an *A-game* to any sport.

At least you get it.

Around here, many of the baseball umpires and softball umpires are downright horrible. The one metric the softball umpires use to measure performance is game time. Anything over an hour is considered poor. The baseball umpires? I don't have that long this morning, but I have just as much disdain, especially for those that don't bother learning the different rule sets.

The guy on this video doesn't appear to be very good, but the difference between softball and baseball guys is that I couldn't possibly care less if he points to the side, uses a hammer, or does a little twirl as long as he puts himself in the best position to call pitches and uses sound timing and judgement. My point was I could pick out a dozen things this guy doesn't do well, but none of Michael's point had anything to do with the officiating itself. And since he did it on the baseball board, it's free game, although I'm not sure why a softball video was posted there in the first place.

I guess I'll never understand. Sue me. Hey, I posted some video of my work, just not on YouTube
