ASA Clarifications

http://www.asasoftball.com/umpires/c...s_2007_jul.asp

I find it hard to believe that the Infield Fly is included in this month's posting. The easiest, EASIEST rule in the book and some idiot is out their trying to out-think a rule that does nothing other than rule the batter out!

Also, the clarification on the wording of rule 8.7.K and this year's test answers.

Where was the confusion in the BOO cases?

Suppose ASA decided one year in the near future to add a clause to the definition of a foul ball that said:

I. The ball is dead on every foul ball.

Then, a year or two later, they deleted that "rule."

What do you want to bet there would be a clarification issued mid-season stating that the ball is still dead on all foul balls?

After looking at the test answers I feel that #24 is an incorect answer. It doesn't even have anything to do with the question. Also #34 was a change to the rule book and #22FP has two correct answers depending on what color ball is being used.

The correct answer for 24 is "A". (4.6.C.4)

At press time, D was the correct answer for 34. The rule change has since been rescinded and the correct answer is A.

And 22 does have two answers.

The latter two were covered in Rule Clarification pages on the ASA web site.

Thanks Mike. I just brought these up to help others if they were questioning them. I didn't go into a long explanation.
