Pre-game pitchers warms up on diamond
Hi all,
Is there a rule that states a pitcher cannot warm up on the diamond before a game? I'm not referring to the 5 warm-ups at the start of the 1st inning, I mean while the two teams our doing their pre-game rituals out on the grass. We had this the other day. It didn't cross my mind until the opposing coach questioned me on it. I had the pitcher/catcher leave the diamond to warm up elsewhere. Regards, Bob

That sort of rule sounds like the purview of the facility, league or tournament director. I don't think I've seen anything like that in a rule book.

When we have weekend tournies here, we basically have a standing rule that there is no practice on the dirt so the field crew can take care of the field. With games scheduled every 90 minutes and the time limits on the game are generally NNI after 75 or 80 minutes, there isn't even time for the field to be raked and re-chalked, so we just force them to the grass to warm up.
