After a game last year, a coach yelled to me, "You're the worst umpire I ever saw!" to which a fan responded, "You ain't seen too many umps, lady!" My partner informed me that the coach had adjudged him identically the day before.

From past weekend, as one team was eliminated: "This is the worst umpire crew I've ever seen at a tournament"

From past weekend as another team was eliminated: "You waited till the last pitch of the game to screw up a call". My partner drew my attention to the obvious compliment.

My highest rating ever- " You are the worst umpire in the universe"

Coach with the WORST reputation of any coach in our area.. so bad our ASA Commish told me he has (as an ump) personnally run the guy more times than he can count on one hand.. he also told me that his players are more than used to having him get ejected... and that is nothing compared to how he treats his players on the field.

Well, I run him..

Fellow umps,

I am pleased to report that out of our huge metro.. where many umps, including the commish, have run a guy.. I singularly was bestowed by this coach the crown of "worst umpire ever; you cant do this to me".

I get choked up just thinking about it. *sniff*

Wade,
Here is a vice versa. There is an association not adjacent to Seattle where it is a rite of passage to run the commish. The commish coaches a team and you have not earned your stripes unless you have his scalp on your belt.

I once ran my ex-gf's father from a church league game. Actually, I didn't really run him. He dropped the "G-D" bomb (remember, Mike... church game ) and I turned to him, opened my mouth... Before I could get a word out, he turned and went to his car. He knew what was next, and saved me the breath.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

I pick my spots when I do this, but...at times when a player utters, "God!", I usually respond with a nice, loud "Yes?"

I should have said, "okay, I'll get right on it, my child." But I was only 15 or 16 when this happened, so... my wit was not quite fully developed. And frankly, neither were my umpiring skills. Hell, they still aren't. That's why I'm here!

That all depends on where you are standing. The church leagues in this area can be just as bad if not worse than your non-sectarian leagues.

I have twice stopped games based on darkness and have twice been accosted with a wave of profanities and threats, from alleged fundamental baptists.

We are the land of the great unchurched. Where TX and others in the south have a megachurch on every corner, we have about 3. One of them has a couple teams in one league. I had to unload an associate pastor who vociferously disagreed with the enforcement of a ground rule that was agreed to by the coaches before the game.

Of course, he was one of the coaches...
