That's about the craziest thing I have ever heard of! Let's penalize a coach because he didn't want his kids to suffer further humiliation.

What, pray tell, is the penalty?

It is a pretty good monetary fine that most schools just don't need to have in their budget.
It was and I still think it is considered and unsportsmanlike act by the FHSAA.
Their idea is, let them play.

Unsportsmanlike to save a shred of your kids' collective dignity? Yes, I guess it is much better for them to face a 29-0 humiliation. That is so much more sporting!!!

Now now now...let's calm down boys.

I keep hearing all this weird crap about the state kittykorner from WA, and especially the FHSAA...

Here in WA, the WIAA is adamant about each district/conference/whatever to establish its own game-ending procedure. The only place WIAA has any say in the game-ending procedure is at the state tournaments, where it is 10 after 5.

I have also heard ugly stories up here about a team winning a blowout several years ago. They were stepping off bases, swinging at any pitch, etc. They lost via forfeit because they were not attempting to play the game properly or some such. So...there is precedent up here for a team being way ahead and losing the game via some namby-pamby forfeit.

in TX most districts have a 15 after 3 rule in addition to the normal 10 after 5. i have had a few games in which a team scored 15 in the first inning, and when they did they started stepping off bases, etc. the coach of the better team told us they would do that so we'd be sure and see them step off. these type games rarely get worse than 20-0 or so ... the coaches don't let it happen.
