HIGH SCHOOL BALL FED RULES PITCHER STEPS ONTO RUBBER WITH HANDS SEPERATED HESITATES HANDS COME TOGETHER (ALL FINE TO THIS POINT) THEN STEPS FORWARD OF RUBBER WITH HANDS STILL TOGETHER (STILL DON'T KNOW WHY SHE STEPS OF RUBBER) IS THIS A ILLEGAL PITCH? IF I READ RB CORRECTLY THE PITCH DOES NOT START TILL HANS SEPERATE AND SAY THEY MAY STEP BACKWARDS OFF RUBBER BUT DOES NOT REF STEPPING FORWARD.

Rule 6.1.2a The pitch starts when one hand is taken off the ball or the pitcher makes any motion that is part of the windup after the hands have been brought together.
I would consider a step forward after the hands have been brought together to be "part of the windup" and would call an Illegal pitch. --Sam |

I agree. Once the pitcher brings her hands together, she must either step backwards off of the rubber or deliver the pitch. If she steps forward towards the plate and does not deliver the pitch an "Illegal Pitch" should be called, and the appropriate penalites enforced if applicable.

I agree with Sam and Candyman, but was wondering what type league or games you calling utilizing FED rules at this time of year. Do your local leagues utilized the NFHS rules? glen

Maybe I am reading this incorrectly.......but........if she continues with the pitch.......I don't see anything wrong with it......
Does she complete the pitch?? Or does she just stop? BTW Terry 1........try not to post in all CAPS.......it is very hard to read and understand what you are saying. I will try and clean up what your are trying to say..... FED ball.....Pitcher steps onto the rubber with her hands seperated...... She hesitates and the hands come forward and then steps forward off of the rubber.............(STILL DON'T KNOW WHY SHE STEPS OF RUBBER).........Does she stop off with her pivot/non-pivot foot? Does she complete the pitch? Terry.......thanks for posting.......but give us a bit more info.......... Thanks Joel [Edited by Gulf Coast Blue on Aug 10th, 2001 at 08:33 PM] |

We play fast pitch fall ball in high school here and play under Fed rules. It appeared she was ready to pitch but maybe the catcher start to give her singals again and simply walks of the rubber forward instead of backwards. Did not appear to be starting the pitch just kind of a brain fart I think.

There is a video that NFHS put out a few years back covering pitching motions, what they consider to be legal and illegal..etc. On that video, they specifically gave the example of a pitcher stepping forward off of the rubber with her hands together. According to this video, you are all correct if you call this an illegal pitch.
