ASA in NC part deux

The ASA here offers modified ball in the fall. What is modified? It was also suggested that I should work slow pitch on some level first.

The best I can describe is that it is fast pitch without being real fast. There are regulations on the pitching, like no windmill, that keep the speed of the ball down. There is still stealing and many other aspects of the fastpitch game.

When I got in to softball, I did slow pitch for a couple of years, then did a year or two of modified and then got into fastpitch. I liked that gradual exposure to different levels.

Why does the booker want me to have done slow pitch first? It sounds like the game is closer to fast pitch. Is it just a one man crew?

Pretty much the only similarity with slow pitch rule-wise is that the pitcher omnly gets 3 warmups instead of 5. My guess is that the booking agent wants you to work adult ball, and get used to dealing with adults, rather than youth fastpitch (which is much closer rule-wise).

I found out that the it is not the booker or the associatoion that wants the SP experience, it is the city of Greensboro, NC. Also, they have gone from ASA to NSA so if I wanted to be credentialed in ASA, the booker would want me to go through an association in another city about 45 mins away. He is trying to get the city to return to ASA because that is his primary affiliation and he thinks it is the best. After reading this forum, I am inclined to agree even though I have only done FED and LL. I would really like to take a shot at doing that rebel classic next year but with so little experience, it probably won't happent but it would be a great way to cut wisdom teeth.
