I agree that a sub can replace the injured player that cannot touch awarded bases.
Slight variation to the above, from an NFHS play 3 or 4 years ago... The pitcher batting and is hit in the leg. She trotted passed first (not touching it) into right field to stretch the some. After two or three minutes of stretching, coach brings out a courtesy runner and batter enters dugout. My partner rules pitcher out for not touching first base. (This was when NFHS had "automatic umpire" appeals.) I heard the call was discussed with NFHS national office. The next year, the rule was reworded to clearly state that a CR can only come in for a pitcher or catcher legally occupying first base.
