ASA is not teaching this as a standard mechanic. It is recognized as a possibility and sometimes encouraged, but not as the standard, must-always-happen-this-way mechanic.

That was my point in asking the question. No offense intended, CecilOne. My question was meaning to determine if it was being taught by NSA, ISA, ...... I know it isn't taught by ASA, NFHS, or NCAA.

Certainly, your local umpire association can use a local mechanic which varies from the national mechanic. It may be good for you. It is important to understand that you are agreeing to vary, and that you must also know the national standard if you move outside your local. ASA allows variation with communication. NCAA allows variation resulting from a game condition, but does NOT want you to agree to vary from any standard mechanic.

Without getting caught up in semantics, I guess I would have preferred you saying that your local group has decided you prefer to use this variation, than to possibly imply that it is being taught as the national standard.
