Question

If you look in the definition section of the ASA book on appeals it states:

An appeal play is a play on which an umpire may not make a decision until requested by a manager, coach or player.

When you look in the POE #1 on appeals...........it instructs you on when, how, and who may make appeals.

At no point does it state that a manager or coach may make an appeal.........only fielders (it specifically states an infielder in a dead ball appeal).

Is the point of the definition that the manager or coach may start the appeal procedure.......but it still must be properly completed by a fielder?

Just thought that this could be a bit confusing if someone ONLY read the definition section.

Joel
