Had this happen a couple of weeks back and has been sitting in the back of my head.
End of the top of the first third base coach walks out to the pitchers rubber and waits for the pitcher to get there. He stands there while the pitcher is warming up and partisapates in a little team huddle as the batter is comming to the box. After the inning was over I spoke to my partner and he said I should have charged a conferance. At the middle of the second inning the coach did the same thing and as he was walking off the field I informed the coach that was his second conferance of the game. Did I go to far, or should have I allowed him to get away with doing this every inning. |

Your partner was wrong. As long as the coach leaves the field when the warm up tosses are completed, it's not a conference. Time hasn't been granted, and play hasn't been held up.
You were doubly wrong by charging a second conference for two reasons. 1..Not a conference. 2..You never charged a first conference. I hope the coach protested. Bob |

Not a charged conference. Coach may observe pitcher during warm up provided coach leaves field promptly when pitcher completes warm up pitches. I'm sure you did not call "Time" nor did coach delay game.
I think you went too far. If your partner thought it should have been a charged "conference", how come he did not inform coach? Why did your umpire partner wait for you to ask him his opinion prior to you saying anything to coach? Sam [Edited by U of M Sam on Aug 15th, 2005 at 10:12 PM]
