Your partner was wrong. As long as the coach leaves the field when the warm up tosses are completed, it's not a conference. Time hasn't been granted, and play hasn't been held up.
You were doubly wrong by charging a second conference for two reasons.
1..Not a conference.
2..You never charged a first conference.
I hope the coach protested.
