To round out the discussion
If a foul tip first hits anything other than the catchers glove or hand, then it has to be foul ball.
If a foul tip, after first hitting the catcher's glove or hand, next hits anything other than the catcher or his/her equipment (i.e. batter, umpire, fence, ground, another defensive player), then we have a foul ball. If a foul tip first hits the catchers glove or hand and then hits their mask, chest protector or any other piece of equipment, it is a foul tip if legally caught. Any corrections?
