Here's one I saw on pro-umpire site thought was kinda interesting
B1 hits grounder to F3 who is bending over to make the play ball takes funny bounce inside of F3 shirt F3 knowing he didnt have time to pull the ball out of his shirt grabs the ball with his hand through his shirt and run over to tag 1st just before BR gets there. Whats the call?? Another rain-out day Don |

Look in the ASA rule of the defenition of a catch......
The ball must be held securely in the glove or hand..... This is a good play and I bet that you could get by calling it either way......BUT.....I have not got a legally held ball so......unless F3 held the ball firmly in the hand or glove..... Safe........ Get ready to eject someone.... ![]() Joel |

I agree with Joel, IF the hand is holding the ball through the outside of the shirt. Dunno why I think that's different than holding the ball in the glove, but I do. If the hand is inside the shirt & holding the ball, I've got an out. If it's guys playing, I may ask to see the ball but not if it's girls.........

You guys are on your game toes today and are correct. Here's the actual ruling from the site even though it's talking OBR I believe the ruling is the same.
Though the ball was under the 1st baseman hand, it can not be considered securely held by his hand or glove since it was actually trapped by his uniform. Hoping for alot of Sunshine Don |

Here's a late addition to this one. ASA gets specific in Rule 8, Section 4, Article I and sez that a fair ball lodged in a defensive player's uniform or equipment is live - runners advance with liability to be put out.
Less than a week til first games and most of the white stuff is gone!!!!!!
