Course I always find out too late;

The King and His Court are playing tonight 3-29-05 in Newnan, Georgia at the Hunter complex on hwy 16. Game time is 6:00, and I think they said tickets are 7 bucks. I heard an interview with the King, Eddie Feigner this morning on a local radio station. This is also supposed to be his final tour, (but I think I've heard that before!). Eddie turned 80 yrs old recently, but still has a 100mph fastball!

Wouldn't you know it, I was called to work a couple of games tonight.

Sorry to disappoint you, Jel but Eddie Feigner is no longer playing. He had a stroke a couple years ago which has restricted some of his movement. He still tours with the King/Court and gives demos. Not sure that he can hit 100 anymore.

There is a new King; trained by Feigner. Probably almost as good; they still only play with four (one female now) and still win most of their games. Like the Globe Trotters, they can go on forever. But - just as there can never be another Meadowlark Lemon, there can never be another "King."

They're in Pensacola tomorrow night (3/30), contributing all proceeds to Rebuild Northwest Florida (Hurrican Ivan recovery effort).

Eddie had a great line a few years ago when someone asked him how hard he throws.

"I still throw as hard as ever. The ball just doesn't go as fast."

I had thought exactly that, however, on his radio interview this morning both he and his wife (who is the female player--1B) indicated he is still throwing, and that he would give an exhibition. The last time I saw him was in 1994 in Auburn, AL. He was rolled in a wheelchair to the foul line, then walked out to pitch. He didn't move much then, but his pitches were faster than any I've ever seen!

Wish I could go tonight, but duty prevails.

Had the opportunity

Had the opportunity more than a few years ago to work one of The King's games, while he was still pitching...amazing to say the least!

Cool

"I still throw as hard as ever. The ball just doesn't go as fast."

^^^^

So true. I worked the plate in a game that he played
a while back. He still had phenomenal pitch placement
but did not have as much speed/velocity as I saw from
some of the young guns in a few tournaments that I
called. Still--- a good show !!

It has been many many years ago, but I batted against Eddie. Well, I stood
at the plate. Just my luck, it was blindfold time. He donned the blindfold,
threw three pitches, catcher told him location, then he called for the batter, Me.
Two swinging and a called third. The guy was awesome.
