What are the most commonly misunderstood rules/calls that officials make that players/coaches argue or question after a game? Im trying to prepare myself for the most common confrontations, civilized or not.

I'm speaking as a coach. But last year, I saw these area cause some confusion:

Infield fly rule

obstruction/interference rules

over running first base rules (with regard to committing yourself to one bag or the other)

Look back rule

courtesy runners

substitutions/rentry

dropped 3rd strikes

Those are areas that stick out that I saw giving some coaches and players problems. Many of my peers do not do their study and research. Thus, they tend to be in the dark about a lot of stuff.

Best advice - don't stick around for the discussion!

I cannot remember the last time I got a question from a coach about the infield fly.

I'd say the most questions I get, when approached away from the field or at a meeting, are about DEFO/FLEX, with interference/obstruction a close 2nd.

I get no questions after a game. Seeya.

The one I hear about the most is 2 bases on an overthrow from the moment the ball leaves the fielder's hand. Many players/coaches think it's sometimes only one base, depending on where on the field the throw originated, or threw the ball.

Sometimes it is! (If the "fielder" is the pitcher, and the "throw" is a pitch)....

The misunderstanding on the overthrow I hear most often is the old 1+1.

another misunderstood rule

another misunderstood rule, which came up during a 14U game over the weekend:

Coaches may REQUEST a time out.

Just because they "call" a time out, doesn't mean they will get a time out. Their request must be granted by an umpire.
