As I remember, "disqualified" was added as an alternative to "ejected" a few years ago, along with the stipulation that a team could play shorthanded if it went under because of a disqualification.

I think the change arose from a situation that occurred in an ASA tournament. A team was far ahead, but late in the game a player hit a ball over the fence for an excess home run and was ejected. The team had no subs and had to forfeit.
