A player is DQ'ed for specific rule violations. Example: unreported substitute.

A player is ejected for flagrant or unsporting conduct. Example: throwing a bat in anger.

The first is considered less serious than the second. Hence, for the first, the team is allowed to continue as if that player just had to leave early. That same privilege is not granted to a team with an ejected player.
