Glen, you might take a look at Tanel's plate shoe. I don't know if it is particularly light but it is very comfortable (wide toe), has great traction, allows an easy pivot, shines very well and is made of leather that will last many years.

Additionally the cleat pattern allows you to readily kick the plate clean.

I concur...I bought a pair of the Tanels last summer because I was tired of the feel (cement blocks) of the Honig's. The Tanels are great, comfortable, lightweight, but still with good protection. Feels more like wearing tennis shoe than a plate shoe. A little pricer that the Honig's, I paid about $135.00 at Gerry Davis' website. Worth the extra, in my opinion.
