Man, talk about nerve.....

After we started up tournament again this morning, in a game the UIC
and myself are not involved, but watching since we are scheduled to
call the next game on this field.

R1 on 2B, BU calls an illegal pitch. Good call and it was warranted.
PU awards a ball on the batter, however, neither blue on the field has
remembered to advance R1 to 3B. Pitcher throws another pitch, a strike
best I remember,(not important). Coach of team batting, calls time, talks
to PU, who confers with BU. They retake their positions with no action.
Just before another pitch is to be thrown, coach calls time again and
approaches UIC sitting in stands. After a brief discussion, UIC calls PU over
talks with him and then PU sends R1 to 3rd. Now defensive coach is having a
in my opinion, rightfully so fit. UIC talks to defensive coach, and I hear
him say, "Umpires forgot to send R1 to 3B, so I am making them correct their
mistake."

WHOA, I gotta work the next game with this guy.

Only one incident. R1 on 3rd, R2 on 2B. First pitch to Batter, I as PU,
see R2 leave early. I call it. It was a no doubt'er. UIC comes in between
innings and tells me to never make that call since it is BU's and never PU's
(Hmmmm, that smells). I just let it drop, called the rest of the game, and
fortunately, we had not another play that required any discussion between us.

Will never ever, ever, work with or for this guy again.

Sounds like you handled it well. The guy shoulda waited until the protest to handle the situation. I've alwasys worked on a field under the impression it's my field inside the fence and no one messes with it unless there's a protest. Was the UIC a new one? Or one that just liked to show his authority? While what he said was correct, the way he handled it will cause problems with a lot of umpires.

We had a similar situation where 2 coaches decided to leave the game one night. After the 2nd ejection, our UIC walked on the field to "see what was happening." I explained there had been two ejections, we didn't need him on the field. He told me he was the UIC and could what he felt like doing. I gave him my clicker, told him to finish up, he could get the pay for the game, I was gone. While I was packing up my gear and talking to the TD, he came up and apologized to me and said I was correct, the field was ours and he shouldn't have done that.

Which park was this in?

Rick

Rule books specifically disallows and correction of awards or runner placement after a pitch, legal or illegal, to the next batter

TexBlue,

Houston area.

Mike,

I know, that was what made the situation even worse.

Makes you really glad to be calling for/with an exceptionally good UIC!
