just curious - baseball

The Houston Astros had a walk-off win last night on a batted ball that traveled about 2 feet.

The play had the catcher picking up the ball and attempting to tag the batter, who took a step or 2 back towards home plate in avoiding the tag. And then all the other stuff happened...

Does baseball not have the rule about BR out when stepping back toward home plate to avoid or delay a tag. (USA 8.2.H)

Just wondering...

In baseball, retreating to home plate is legal, as long as the batter-runner does not touch home plate on the way back. This is the case for all levels.
