Deviation for original intent...
I understand that. I was questioning why the words "from any direction" were added to the rule, if the intent of the rule was originally for the throw-in situation.

The NBA rules on traveling (see below) don't appear that different...do they? It still appears that first count occurs when he picks up the ball from the dribble with either foot touching the floor....
