If I've echoed the whistle, I've already turned to see where the ball carrier is at. I wear a lanyard whistle so I have a moment to find it before it gets blown. 14 years a whistle from the stands...

Whistle or no?
As a 14 year veteran, and 11 years at Umpire on Friday nights, 99% of the time I blow my whistle is to echo another official, or stop for equipment. But the other 1% is when I've got a ball carrier...

As a 14 year veteran
I've been officiating 14 years and Umpire on my varsity crew for 11. On a pass play the only signal I give is on a tip pass. On the short dump pass right over the middle I'll turn to assist quickly...
