Sat Feb 07, 2015 09:20pm - permalinkCoach BillYour zone defense looks pretty good. But make sure the weak side guys know their responsibilities. Looks like they got sucked in a few times and a guy got a wide open 3 near the top of the key. Also, I noticed teams were able to skip the ball easily on your defense. It's critical that someone is always pressuring the ball in the zone. You have to make that pass difficult. Very easy to beat a zone if you're able to easily skip the ball.

Sat Feb 07, 2015 09:18pm - permalinkCoach BillLook to run on a defensive rebound. Have them outlet to the point guard and sprint up the floor (spread out). Have one guy that is ahead of the play to come back around midcourt and set a screen for your point guard. We want to get the point guard in the open court so that he can drive or kick it to a shooter.

Sat Feb 07, 2015 09:13pm - permalinkCoach BillAnother option against the man-to-man is to spread the floor again. Only, this time have the player who is being guarded by the slowest/worst defender of the other team, to set a screen for the point guard near the top of the key. If they don't switch, then he'll probably get a layup (make sure other players are spread way out away from the paint). If they do switch, then he'll probably still get a layup because he's being covered by their slowest guy.

Sat Feb 07, 2015 09:11pm - permalinkCoach BillI watched the videos. My biggest suggestion on offense is to spread the floor. Looks like you have a really good point guard and at least one good shooter. Put your best shooter in the right corner (if your point guard prefers to go right, otherwise flip it). Put two guys on the left side (one in the corner and one far out on the wing outside the 3 point line. Put the last guy on the right wing way outside the 3 point line. So, if you're picturing this, you have a wide open middle of the floor, with two guys on each side spread out far. It's important to get that spacing, because after your point guard beats his man, you want the help to have to come a far distance. Have the point guard beat his man, and then, if no help comes, he should score. Otherwise, if help comes, tell him to read the play, and hit the open man. After you do this a couple possessions, the other team will probably be forced to switch to zone.

Coach Bill,
I uploaded a few minutes to youtube. I can upload more if you find it interesting.
A couple of notes. This is the first game we've played zone (3-2). Been playing m2m all year. We switched back to m2m at halftime. Our only true point guard got into foul trouble very early (for the first time this year). He played about half the game.
I use a gopro wide view camera. I use VLC to view the video and it has a convenient zoom option that youtube doesn't have. So you may not see the action very well.
Here's 2 links:

Coach Bill,
You offered to reviewed the entire youth game on youtube. If you're serious, I'll upload it. I just didn't want to upload in a public setting (in this forum or youtube). So if I get confirmation back from you, I'll send links this way.
Also, not sure if I'm sending a private message correctly so hope you get this.
