I have only worked 18 varsity games? That is news to me. I had 18 just last year. The lowest number of varsity football games I have done in a season was 4 and that was my first season. I have had 9 or more ever since.

But the last time I checked, only Bill was at the Clinic as a speaker that I attended. I do not know who the others are except for Jay. And Bill never said it was OK to overrule a partner. I have seen the man speak several times, but I have never seen him EVER use that language and advocate that practice. So you are right, he does know better than me. That is why I am not listening to a washed up D1 wannabe (which we cannot prove) over a person I see on TV every week of the football season.

You are so right. I should listen to these guys over Allman, Bohn, Buchner, Alstadt or Herrera (clinician in football and basketball), Dobey, or Dacey. Remind me to dismiss their point of view, considering that everyone I just mentioned are very accomplished officials and in some cases Rules Interpreters. I could have mentioned more, but I guess your 3 people are more respected state wide in their respective sports? So much that I have never heard of them. But every sport I work, multi-sport officials know who these guys are. So you can pump up your Ciulla, Orris, Steeves which I know most people out of UMPS has not heard of. But every Basketball Officials knows who Allman, Dacy and Bohn are. Every Football officials that has attended IACAO knows who Buchner and Herrera are. And any football fan that closely pays attention to a football game, knows who Bill LeMonnier is if they live in the Midwest. I guess I should take your word, considering I have never seen you on TV at any game? You mean the baseball games in the playoffs are not on Comcast Cable? You mean the State Final Baseball games are not shown state wide? I cannot think of a year that Football or Basketball was not on TV for the State Finals. When Marcus Liberty was playing and Lephonzo Ellis were competing in Champaign, I could see the officials work those game. Maybe there is a reason no one cares about baseball?

Why would 3 officials disagree on a flag? If 3 officials have knowledge about a particular call (in a 5 man crew), you are going to have a lot of problems. Unless you have a PI call where the ball is tipped, I could see the U and the LJ signaling "tipped ball" and the BJ not seeing it. When he throws a flag, not guarantee that it is going to be a PI call. It could be Def. Holding, it could be Offensive Holding. My point is it would be based entirely on what foul is called and what other information can be given. But if the BJ throws a flag, the U and LJ would have to know what the foul is for. Then they would only offer information if something took place that would not make it a foul. But that would still fall on the shoulders of the calling official to decide to pick up the flag. I have done it, I have seen many officials do that. But by no means can someone just tell the Referee without consultation the call was wrong. We are a team and we have to work together.

R.I.T. - you failed again

So you can pump up your Ciulla, Orris, Steeves which I know most people out of UMPS has not heard of.

1) have, not has
2) don't end a sentence with a preposition

But every Basketball Officials knows who Allman, Dacy and Bohn are.

1) official, not Officials (no need to capitalize, it is not a title)

Every Football officials that has attended IACAO knows who Buchner and Herrera are.

1) Ditto

I guess I should take your word, considering I have never seen you on TV at any game?

Yes, you have - you just don't know my identity.

You mean the baseball games in the playoffs are not on Comcast Cable?

Considering that Comcast cable does not provide service to half the state, I think that would be a safe bet.

I cannot think of a year that Football or Basketball was not on TV for the State Finals.

Yes, that is important to the discussion, but then again, your ADD is keeping you from focusing again. Bad R.I.T.!

When Marcus Liberty was playing and Lephonzo Ellis were competing in Champaign, I could see the officials work those game.

Cool! BTW, it's Lephonso.

Maybe there is a reason no one cares about baseball?

1) Was that a question?
2) If no one cares about baseball, then why are all MLB games televised?
3) I'm trying to figure out what it has to do with the fact that professional and some NCAA sports are allowing bad calls to be corrected.

Your grade for this quiz was an F, again.

Wink Are you going to say that to my face?

Other than Jay, I do not know the people you claim to hold in such high regard. So throwing them in my face or pointing them out is kind of stupid if you ask me. Who cares who UMPS members that hold clinician roles as IHSA Clinicians? I know many clinicians, some in more than one sport and they do not teach what you seem to advocate. And they are playoff officials too. Does that make them stupid and dumb or any other name you can call me? I will see if you will call them that to their face?

Peace

Red face come on guys...

Rut and WCB you guys are flailing a DEAD, mutilated corpse of a horse. Let it go, you two disagree and will never agree on this issue.

WCB, please stop baiting him. His LOOOOOONG posts hurt my head and have ceased to be amusing.

Wink What in theee....

Thanks Jumpmaster...I'm new to the board, and these guys have way too much idle time! Let's stick to discussions with some sort of conclusion to help our fellow officials!

Big Smiles...JR

I grabbed it off an old IHSA press release after doing a Google search.

I stand corrected on the spelling of this incredible athlete.

I believe this thread has finally qualified as the all time longest thread in Officialbore'em.com history. If I'm mistaken I'm sure "He-Whose-Name-Is-Never-Spoken" will correct me. Since I can't get the search feature to work, I'll have to rely on my memory.

Congratulations on this dubious honor. You can stop now.

This post is tame.

Actually Garth, there are many other posts that put this to shame. Nine pages is nothing. There have been a few just on the basketball board, most of the time nothing about basketball was being discussed. One has been about baseball for most of the Major League season. Usually the post in question last much longer. The posters are just having fun and ribbing each other in a fun way. They are not personal or malicious. The threads are just good clean fun and rip each other about being a Red Sox fan and being too short or too old. We have some real characters on this board. One of the reasons many of us consider ourselves part of a family.

Peace
