Don't give out the key to part II.

Our state rep in Hawaii requested us not to discuss the NFHS part II exam with anyone. We had to turn in the test and answer sheet when we took the test. It was a closed book-timed test (75 minutes) given state-wide to all associations.

The main reason we were told not to discuss the test is that the integrity of the exam will be compromised if the answers are available to officials who will be sitting for the exam at a later date.

I would advise every official not to discuss the part II exam with anyone at this time until it is clear that the test has been administered in all jurisdictions.

I was reading about the cheating scandal at West Point back in the early 1950s and the potential for abuse is very similar. We should not give out the answer sheet to anybody because it will provide an unfair advantage to officials who have access to the key and have not yet taken the exam.

What is the advantage of having a higher classification pursuant to the Part 2 test? Does anyone make more money as a "Superior" than as an "Approved"?

That is like trying to stop a fly coming in your house with the screen door opening. If Hawaii and these other states have such a problem with the "information" getting out, then give your own test. Florida does it apparently.

If the test was so important anyway, why would the NF allow Athletic Rules Study give out their past tests for review? I think there were about 40 questions that were asked right off the CD (or past test). It seems like Athletic Rules Study defeats the purpose of what so many think is "vital" to officiating. All you have to do is memorize the questions with the answers, and you answer in autodrive.

Peace

I agree with the earlier post. I do well on the test every year, but this test HARDLY distinguishes between the good officials and the bad officials. This test just studys how much you read the rulebook. Does nothing to determine how good you officiate a game. It's just memorization. One question a few years ago was concerning the coaches box vs where the players should be. Refering to the players on the sideline can't be in the coaches box. I DARE any official to flag a team for their players being in the coaches box but off the field. I triple-dog dare them!

No need to dare or flag. Just find your "get back" coach! :)

Cain, with regards to testing, the exam isn't designed to distinguish between a good official and a bad official. It's purpose is to get us to open the rule book, to study the case book, and to have an understanding of how to adinistrate the game. Lack of rules knowledge, the inability to handle situations and not being able to administer the game does distinguish between a bad official from a bad one.

bktball-

A "get back" coach for keeping the players out of the coaches box?

If they are off the field, and not in my way, and not outside the 25's, ...I don't care where they stand.

Cain,

If they're in the coaches box, they're in the way.

Well, that's fine for you. But I have no desire to spend time in the hospital. If I have 50 players behind me are in the coaching box and a sweep copmes my way, where in the hell am I going? It's like STEVED21 said, If they're in the coaches box, they're in the way. I can't operate, the chain crew can't operate and if the players are in the box, the coaches are on the field.

Keep those kids back! Coaches box is just for that... coaches. If you let th ekids abuse it, then the coaches move out on to the field. BOTH are in your way! Players in the PLAYERS box, coaches in the COCHES box. EVERYONE off the field!!!!!!!!!! if youare not in the play! {coaches that means you}. Sideline warning will clear them out quickly. Coaches know that it means 15 yds next time, and very few coaches will want a 15 yarder.

Please keep your sidelines clear. Saftey is a huge concer for yourself AND players AND coaches. We had an official in IN who ended up wiht 32 stitches, overnight stay because a "video crew" got to close down field. I am sure the $$ check did not cover the hospital stay. As the white hat, my DIRECTIVE to my wings are keep it clear & safe. It only take 1.

Remember it is a free warning first, then a 5 yarder, then 15 yarders.

KWH,

Thanks. I'll take another look at those two questions.
